Fortune's Favorites follows some of the great Roman personalities on their respective rises to greatness: Ceasar, Pompey and Crassus, the members of the First Triumvirate (as history calls them). Unfortunately I took a long break in the middle of this book because other reading came up but it stands just as consistent and well-researched as the /5(78).

Masters of Rome is a series of historical novels by Australian author Colleen McCullough, set in ancient Rome during the last days of the old Roman Republic; it primarily chronicles the lives and careers of Gaius Marius, Lucius Cornelius Sulla, Pompeius Magnus, Gaius Julius Caesar, and the early career of Caesar spans from January 1, BC through to Janu 27 BC.

Sulla continues to dominate the first part of Fortune's Favorites, but overall the book seemed a little disjointed. Caesar and the pirates, Spartacus, Cicero vs. Verres, While there were a lot of interesting events in this book, I didn't find it as satisfying as the previous two in the series, I guess because there wasn't an overarching theme/5.
